Presidency Orders Investigation Into Crash-landing Incident Involving Osinbajo's Helicopter

The Presidency has ordered an immediate probe into the incident, involving the helicopter carrying Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Osinbajo was aboard the chopper, on his way to Kogi for a campaign rally, when the helicopter crash-landed in Kabba. See Also News Osinbajo’s Chopper Crash-lands In Kogi 0 Comments 17 Hours Ago

While landing at the Kabba Stadium, the helicopter is said to have "suddenly skidded sideways, until it halted on its side few metres away from the intended resting spot".

Also aboard the chopper were the Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, Professor Stephen Ocheni, senior presidential aides, security officials and the crew, bringing the total number of people on board to 12. Everyone disembarked safely.

A statement by the presidency on the probe, issued on Saturday night, read: "As is procedural, a full investigation into the causes of the incident would be conducted by aviation authorities."

Also, Caverton Helicopters, owners of the chopper, issued a statement on Saturday night on the matter, noting that the relevant authorities had been duly informed and the incident would be investigated.

NCAA Suspends Charter Operator's Certificate For 180 Days Over Violation Of Regulations

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has sanctioned four airlines over violation of regulations and non-training of personnel as required by the airlines. The regulatory agency said the sanctioned airlines include scheduled and non-scheduled operators, and were fined between N1.5million and N2million each for the violations. While, the regulatory body refused to name the airline whose Air Operators' Certificate (AOC) was suspended for 180 days, investigation revealed that the airline in question may not be one of the scheduled operators, as all the scheduled airlines are still in operation. However, there are up to 70 non-scheduled operators, including helicopters, in Nigeria. A statement by Sam Adurogboye, the General Manager, Public Affairs of NCAA, noted that the operators were sanctioned for various degrees of violations.
